Montane Building Group is proud to be featured in Northern Nevada Business Weekly for our work transforming the former Scolari’s building on Lakeside Court into the new NevDex Sports Lab, a premier indoor sports facility coming to Reno.

The article highlights the partnership between owners Owen Blake of Swift Sports Dome and Chad and Cory Clemetson of NevDex Properties, along with Montane’s role as general contractor. Together, the team is revitalizing a long-vacant, vandalized 1975 steel building into a modern space for basketball, volleyball, and skill development.

A Complex Transformation

NNBW noted that updating the 30,000-square-foot structure required a full design-build approach. Montane created the architectural plans and led all modernization efforts, including:

• Seismic and structural upgrades
• A new exterior skin with insulated metal panels
• Mechanical, electrical, and plumbing overhauls — including a new sewer line
• Precise floor leveling for specialty court flooring
• Extensive vandalism repairs, including replacing all stolen copper

With no historical blueprints available, Montane’s team conducted detailed structural assessments and coordinated with subcontractors such as SI Legacy Floor Finishing, Paradigm Electric, Fleet Heating & Air Conditioning, and L&L Plumbing and Heating to rebuild the facility.

A New Community Sports Hub

Once complete, the NevDex Sports Lab will offer:

• 3 basketball courts
• 4 volleyball overlays
• Nevada’s first Shoot 360 center
• A full kitchen and bar
• A large multi-use space for youth and adult leagues

NevDex partner Chad Clemetson shared that the goal is to strengthen community well-being through accessible recreation.

Proud to Build a Community Asset

Montane President Rob Smith told NNBW: “It was a dilapidated building when we got it, and now it’s going to be one of the top sports facilities on the West Coast.”

Montane is honored to help bring this project to life and looks forward to its opening, likely in early January.
